How tamper guarantees industrial data integrity for continuous Industry 4.0 operations.
Current Solutions, Challenges and Expected Outcomes:
Our client, a European industrial manufacturer specializing in high-performance chemical production, operates an IoT infrastructure comprising more than 3,000 sensors deployed across four production sites. These sensors measure temperature, pressure, flow rate, humidity, CO2, and other critical parameters in real time to ensure process compliance and the safety of Seveso-classified facilities.
All collected data flows through AVEVA PI System (Historian) before being archived on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), where it feeds an Oracle data warehouse used by Business Intelligence teams to generate performance, audit, and regulatory compliance reports.
Although the technical infrastructure was robust and compliant with industrial standards, a major blind spot remained: the lack of continuous integrity monitoring once the data had been archived on OCI. Identified risks included silent corruption of historical time-series data, accidental deletions during maintenance, unauthorized modifications that could distort trend analyses, and, above all, attacks specifically targeting archived data to conceal production anomalies or safety incidents.
The loss or alteration of this data represented a threefold risk: regulatory non-compliance, an inability to demonstrate product batch traceability in the event of a customer dispute, and an inability to conduct reliable predictive analyses to optimize processes.
The organization was looking for a solution capable of monitoring the integrity of millions of time-series data files without affecting production performance, while rapidly detecting abnormal behavior indicating a potential compromise of its industrial data assets.
Why tamper Was Chosen?
tamper stood out for its native compatibility with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's S3-compatible API and its agentless architecture. Unlike traditional monitoring solutions that require agent installation, tamper operates from a dedicated, isolated server, eliminating any risk of interference with production systems.
tamper's ability to process massive volumes of time-series files (CSV datasets, Parquet files, and JSON exports) while maintaining a usable forensic log was a key factor for the converged OT/IT team. Every file modification is automatically analyzed using AI to determine whether it results from a legitimate process (the addition of new measurements or weekly consolidation) or a suspicious alteration (retroactive changes to values or targeted deletion of specific time ranges).
This level of analytical granularity makes it possible to quickly distinguish a scheduled BI export from an attempt to manipulate data to conceal a regulatory threshold exceedance or a production incident. The ability to detect mass deletions characteristic of industrial ransomware attacks specifically targeting production history also weighed in the decision.
Finally, native integration with the existing security stack (Splunk SIEM for event correlation and ServiceNow for incident management) enabled rapid production deployment without redesigning the security architecture, a critical requirement in an industrial environment where operational continuity takes priority.

How tamper Operates Day to Day?
tamper continuously audits OCI buckets containing archived industrial data originating from AVEVA PI System. Every operation performed on time-series files is tracked, creating a forensic integrity log that can be used during ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 compliance audits and DREAL inspections.
Real-time monitoring dashboards provide IT and cybersecurity teams with immediate visibility into the integrity of industrial data assets. Bucket configuration scoring proactively identifies vulnerabilities (disabled versioning on critical data, missing encryption, or overly permissive permissions granted to service accounts), enabling remediation before they can be exploited.
Alerts configured in ServiceNow ensure a coordinated response across IT, OT, and cybersecurity teams to critical events, including mass deletions suggestive of ransomware, suspicious retroactive modifications to periods that have already been audited, and access from unusual geographic locations. Automated weekly reports document activity involving archived data, facilitating compliance demonstrations during external audits and certification reviews.
Why Do They Recommend tamper?
The manufacturer recommends tamper for its ability to extend traditional perimeter security to the core of its archived industrial data assets. Early detection has already made it possible to identify progressive corruption of time-series files caused by a software bug in the export pipeline, preventing erroneous data from being used in strategic production optimization decisions.
The combination of File Integrity Monitoring (FIM) and Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) provides two layers of protection: active monitoring of alterations and continuous improvement of cloud security configuration. The complete absence of any impact on production system performance and the straightforward integration with the existing ecosystem eliminated the usual reservations OT teams have about cybersecurity solutions.
Regulatory compliance is significantly strengthened, with comprehensive documentation of all activity involving archived data, available for certification audits and regulatory inspections.
